Topic: Please Touch The Art

Abstract:
From indoor communal spaces to outdoor parks and plazas, Jen Lewin challenges you to move beyond intention into action with engaging light based works. Her interactive public sculptures use cutting edge LED technology, mesh networks, and IoT to bring lighting and sound to life. She pushes the boundaries of urban spaces with a strong artistic vision, creating installations that create landmarks and gathering points while transforming public space and invigorating community. Come and be inspired by Lewin’s work, process, and vision as she covers the history of her dynamic work and its path into the exciting future.

About the Speaker:
Jen Lewin is an internationally renowned sculptor based in New York, who works with light and interactive media. Over the last 15 years, Lewin has honed her highly technical medium to fabricate large-scale interactive sculptures that combine light, sound and motion to encourage community interaction.

Lewin’s use of technology as a medium challenges popular conceptions of new media works and their limitations. Focusing on pieces made for public use, she thinks beyond the conventional art exhibition to create an experience that brings vibrancy to neighbourhoods and public spaces. At once organic and electronic, Lewin’s playful sculptures leave the viewers enchanted and surprised while encouraging delight through their engagement with the work.

Jen Lewin, her designs, and installations have been recognized with an Architizer A+ Award. Her works have been featured at events in the US and in cities all over the world including Sydney, Singapore, and Gwangju. She has had solo exhibitions in the United States, Portugal and England. Lewin served as Creative Director for the Ceren Project and Ivee Project at The Sundance Laboratory for Advanced Computing in Design, as well as lead designer for ITN (Saber) in Palo Alto.
